The newly released 2016 Indiana Logistics Directory reports that Indiana ranks high nationally in its ability to move freight via truck, rail, water and air. The state is ranked in the top five states in more than 25 logistics-related categories and in the top 10 in 109. The Directory, published by the Ports of Indiana, showcases Indiana's vast transportation infrastructure and includes national logistics rankings, maps and freight statistics.

According to the Directory, Indiana ranks first among all states in pass-through interstates, is home to the country's largest producer of truck trailers and is ranked third in truck tractor registrations. In rail transportation, the Hoosier state is first in shipments of primary metals, is ranked third in the number of freight railroads and fourth in the number of total rail carloads.

With access to Lake Michigan and the Ohio River, Indiana is ranked sixth in domestic waterborne shipping and Mount Vernon is the seventh largest inland port district in the country.

For freight moved via air, Indiana is home to the second largest FedEx Express hub in the world. With 550 air facilities, only nine states offer more airports, heliports and seaplane bases.

"We're happy to provide this valuable resource to promote Indiana's logistics sector," said Ports of Indiana CEO Rich Cooper. "Because access to reliable transportation modes and associated infrastructure is critical for all companies, the Directory can be a useful tool for executives looking for service providers and economic development officials advising new companies about the state's vast logistics resources."

The Directory includes maps of key transportation networks throughout North America and Indiana for major highways, railroads, ports and airports. In addition to rankings for over 100 logistics-related categories, it has approximately 1,000 business listings as well as logistics data for freight traffic, employment, NAFTA trade and all transportation modes. It is also a valuable resource for the media, public officials and educators in search of transportation and logistics data.
