Carnival Cruise Lines' new 110,000-ton Carnival Glory will become the newest and largest cruise ship based at Port Canaveral, Fla., when it begins year-round seven-day Caribbean service from that port July 19, 2003. Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the 2,974-passenger Carnival Glory represents a 40 percent capacity increase over the 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride, which debuted the line's first seven-day cruise schedule from Port Canaveral earlier this year. Carnival Pride will be redeployed to another homeport. Among the largest passenger vessels ever constructed, the 952-foot-long Carnival Glory will provide an exciting new cruise option from Port Canaveral, with 14 passenger decks housing 22 bars and lounges, a 15,000-square-foot health club, four swimming pools and three restaurants, including an upscale "steakhouse-style" supper club serving U.S.D.A. prime beef and other gourmet cuisine. Carnival Glory will also feature numerous "family-friendly" amenities, including an expansive 3,300-square-ft. play area and family recreation area featuring a teen club and video game room, perfect for a ship based year-round at Port Canaveral, which typically attracts a higher concentration of families because of its proximity to Central Florida attractions.
