Transas has delivered a comprehensive equipment set to the first of two P-960 project tankers to be built at the Brodosplit Shipyard, Croatia. The equipment contract for the two 108,000 tons displacement tanker new buildings was signed in November 2002.

M/T “Sakhalin Island” is supplied with a complete Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS, designed in compliance with the latest IMO regulations for UAIS interface, and is enhanced with navigational consoles, ARPA/Radar and Navi-Conning display. The delivery set also contains radio equipment, including GMDSS units, satellite communications and intercoms.

The significance of this contract is that it is the first time Transas has supplied a tanker with a Track-Control System. The system, in conjunction with positioning sources, heading and speed information, is intended to keep a ship automatically on a pre-planned track under various conditions and within the limits of the ship’s manoeuvrability and with minimal participation from the navigator. The route plan for the system is generated in the Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS-I system, while the system itself is connected to the automatic helm.

The Transas Track-Control System meets all the requirements of IEC 62065 standard, Catergory C for full track control on both straight courses and turns. It is noteworthy that the certification of the product was conducted onboard the tanker “Sakhalin Island” in the presence of the Det Norske Veritas nautical surveyor. The installation on the second tanker will be completed by the end of this year. Dmitri Lagoutin, the head of Transas’ New-Building Department said: “This contract marks a significant step forward for Transas, which will provide further consolidation of our company’s position among the leading marine transportation equipment manufacturers, and will attract new customers.”
