Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded the contract to upgrade the safety and
automation systems onboard the Statoil production ship, ‘Norne’. As part
of an ongoing collaboration with Statoil, Kongsberg Maritime is also
responsible for operations, maintenance and modifications on Statoil’s
Statfjord A, B and C, Heidrun and Åsgard A and B.
Tor Erik Sørensen, Marketing Director, Konsgebrg Maritime says, “The
Norwegian oil & gas market is an important area for Kongsberg Maritime.
The Norne contract is one of a large number of similar contracts we’ve
completed on other Statoil installations so we are pleased to be able to
provide a continuation of our services.”
Once the safety and automation systems upgrade is completed, the Norne
will be equipped to meet future challenges. Kongsberg Maritime is in the
final phase of delivering a similar safety and automation system for the
‘Kristin’ platform, which is currently being assembled by Aker Stord.
“This contract with Statoil will bring the systems on Norne up to the same
technological standard as those on Kristin, with the added advantage of
very little downtime,” comments Tor Erik. “A unique aspect of this
contract is that all hardware upgrades will be made whilst the unit is in
full production. The final upgrading of the control logic will take place
during a planned shut down.”
Summer 2003 saw Kongsberg Maritime’s existing framework contracts for
maintenance and operations with Statoil renewed for two years. Kongsberg
Maritime also holds the framework contract with Statoil for new projects.
