New Automated Container Loading System

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

June 15, 2012

Finland's Actiw Oy contracted to supply 14 automated container loading systems that speed up containerization of palletised goods

The contrat is with Tecnimont SpA, main EPC subsidiary of the Maire Tecnimont Group, Italy, for delivery to an end customer in the petrochemical industry in the United Arab Emirates.

The system is the first of its kind where product pallets coming from palletizing lines are fully automatically transferred and loaded into standard sea containers. The main benefits of this technology come from the operational efficiency, decrease of product damage and safety of loading.

The new loading technology is based on the ACTIW LoadPlate loading system that has shown its efficiency in dozens of sites in meeting the customer demands of quick and safe containerisation of various and complex cargo. By adding standard conveyor technology to LoadPlate Actiw Oy has developed a solution to move product pallets directly from production into standard sea containers.

Load-forming conveyors receive the pallets from production, pack them side by side and feed them to the loading plate equipped with freely rotating rollers. After a full container load is ready and the container is docked to the LoadPlate, the full load is transferred into the container and the loading plate is pulled out. All this takes place in a few minutes, and even up to 30 tons of cargo is loaded and ready for dispatch.
