Simrad GPS Gains Wheel Mark Approval

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

June 10, 2003

Aimed at all sizes of commercial, fishing and coastal vessels Simrad’s GN33 is the first GPS Navigator with built-in chartplotter to gain the coveted Wheel Mark approval granted by BSH in Hamburg Germany. The GN33 is the successor to the stalwart Wheel Mark approved GN30 DGPS. The new GN33 offers a whole new set of functions; not least the Chartplotter feature which is set to satisfy the increasing demand for approved GPS Navigators on small and medium size vessels. Simrad has added a brand new feature to the GN33 to meet recent IMO legislation that requires the inclusion of Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) on Wheelmark approved GPS units. RAIM improves the reliability of GPS information by indicating offsets generated from faulty satellite data. Simrad GN33 uses the RAIM technology beyond the standard requirement to exclude faulty satellites and maintain maximum accuracy by using only healthy satellite data. The GN33 GPS ChartNavigator is available now in both black & white and color versions.
