Marine industry expert Marcus Jones has joined the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) as its first Chief Operating Officer, working closely with Chief Executive, Keith Read CBE. “With the interests of 15,000 members in over a hundred countries and 49 branches globally to look after, coupled with the challenges and opportunities facing the maritime community, I am delighted that our team has been strengthened by the arrival of Marcus Jones,” explains Keith Read. “His input will be invaluable in the exciting times that lie ahead of us, and our members.” Marcus Jones was previously with Lloyd’s Register Group where, since 2000, he was responsible for a £50m global oil and gas business, leading the development and implementation of global strategy and planning and delivery of the business plan. He also directed worldwide business development and the definition of the commercial, technical and marketing policies for the business, as well as technology developments and innovation. In this role he also lead the identification and progress of a number of acquisitions in strategic locations around the world. “As a Fellow of the Institute, I feel privileged to work with a strong management team to provide excellent services to the marine community in a sustainable manner,” says Marcus Jones. “I am particularly interested in promoting education, training and accreditation to improve the safety of life, protection of the environment and the integrity of assets in the increasingly globalised marine communities.”
