Christopher Brown has been appointed Asia Pacific Regional Director of the UK P&I Club from October 1st. He will also be responsible for providing services to all Thomas Miller’s managed Clubs, particularly UK P&I, TT, UK Defence, ITIC and the Lloyd’s insurer Dex.
Based in Hong Kong, Brown will head Miller’s regional management team, leading the offices in the region and supported by experienced managers Nick Sansom in Singapore and Barton Phillips in Sydney.
He succeeds Colin Lewin who is moving to London as Chief Operating Officer of the TT Club. He will work closely with Andreas Mueller, who succeeds Mr Lewin as TT’s Regional Manager for Asia Pacific.
Brown joined Miller’s in London in August 2001, with the intention of moving to Hong Kong this year. In London, he has been working on projects and travelling to meet Club members in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Norway. He has participated in seminars on environmental liabilities, bill of lading issues, war risks and other topics.
An economist, who has practized law in his native United States, Christopher Brown, 41, has extensive experience of claims and P&I management. He spent 12 years with the Gard P&I Club, rising to head of claims.
He looks forward to returning to Hong Kong, where he worked from 1997 to 1999. “Thomas Miller has unequalled maritime insurance resources in Asia, based on a wide network of offices and innovative uses of information technology. In particular, the claims team is the strongest in the region with skills and experience gained at sea, in commerce and in the law.”
