EDS today gobal specialist in energy and transport infrastructure, to provide information technology (IT) infrastructure and applications services. Once signed, the contract may rank among the largest IT agreements in the history of the manufacturing and energy industries.
Under the outsourcing agreement, EDS would manage ALSTOM's IT infrastructure and applications in 14 countries -- Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and U.S. Approximately 1,300 ALSTOM employees in these countries would be transferred to EDS.
The EDS agreement is expected to reduce ALSTOM's IT costs while delivering improved operational efficiency and higher IT service and quality levels. EDS is a global leader in deploying manufacturing solutions through its IT services. EDS' work in the worldwide manufacturing industry accounted for approximately 25 percent of the company's revenue last year. More than 30,000 EDS employees work on manufacturing-related projects in 40 countries.
