The USCG has re-opened the docket for additional comment on its May 24 interim rule, establishing new procedures for administrative proceedings such as license suspension and revocation cases.
The USCG says the rule, which consolidates and streamlines the rules of practice, procedure and evidence for administrative proceedings, is meant to improve its administration of the system, and save time, money and effort for all parties.
However, the changes have provoked considerable dissatisfaction among mariners, many of whom believe the new rules will place them at a disadvantage if they become the subject of a license action.
In response to these concerns, the USCG has re-opened the docket for additional comments until April 3, 2000.
