Thrane & Thrane Grows Through Acquisition

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

October 5, 2004

Thrane & Thrane is extending its size through acquisition in an effort to be positioned as the world’s leading manufacturer of equipment for mobile satellite communication. The company acquired EuroCom Industries (Denmark), a company whose products are sold under the Sailor and Skanti brands.

“The acquisition of EuroCom Industries strengthens Thrane & Thrane’s position as the world’s leading manufacturer of maritime communication equipment,” said Henrik Lunde, CEO, Thrane & Thrane. “Our customers and distribution partners will now be offered a true “one-stop-shopping” experience that can meet virtually all communication needs from the professional maritime community. Today no other manufacturer within maritime communication can match our strong product program.”

Thrane & Thrane has for more than two decades cooperated closely with EuroCom Industries and EuroCom Industries has in recent years successfully marketed a number of Thrane & Thrane products, including the Inmarsat-C, mini-C and Fleet terminals.

Following the acquisition, Thrane & Thrane will offer the global maritime community an even broader maritime product portfolio. Furthermore, Thrane & Thrane’s customers will gain access to and support of the company’s products through an enlarged service and distribution network.

The first direct result of the acquisition is Thrane & Thrane’s launch of three new maritime products including a SAILOR mini-M terminal, a SAILOR Fleet 33 terminal and a SAILOR portable GMDSS VHF terminal. The three products will all be launched at SMM in Hamburg September 28, 2004.

As a key element in the creation of the leading global provider of maritime communication equipment EuroCom Industries A/S changed its name to Thrane & Thrane Aalborg A/S with effect from September 27, 2004.

Sailor F33, Sailor Mini-M Launched Thrane & Thrane now offers the Sailor Fleet33 terminal and a Sailor mini-M terminal, both launched at SMM in Hamburg. The Sailor Fleet33 terminal is Thrane & Thrane’s smallest and lightest maritime Fleet terminal. The terminal comes with a small and compact antenna, only 35 cm in diameter and with a weight of around 4 kg. The small antenna size, the light terminal and the low-cost, simple installation makes the Sailor Fleet33 a very attractive solution for private yachts, coast guard vessels and fishing boats. The Sailor Fleet33 offers global telephony and 9.6 kbps fax and data services. The terminal also supports the Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS), which allows users to remain always online since they are charged only for the amount of data sent and received.

New GMDSS VHF Launched

Sailor launched a new portable GMDSS VHF Sailor SP3300 on SMM in Hamburg. The SAILOR SP3300 is specifically designed to meet the GMDSS requirements for portable VHFs, as well as fulfilling the need for easy-to-use portable VHFs. This combination makes it highly suitable as a working communication tool in the tough environment onboard a vessel.

The Sailor SP3300 is designed to be small and handy, featureing large buttons and a backlit display, a powerful loudspeaker, as well as a practical belt clip, which makes it an excellent tool for every day communication onboard vessels.
