Shipowner and operator, Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) celebrated the naming and delivery of its third L Class PSV vessel, Pacific Legend in Kyoto, Japan on Tuesday, 30 September 2014.

Graced by Lady Sponsor, Amanda Butt, the naming ceremony was held at Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU)’s Maizuru Shipyard and attended by guests, partners and employees of JMU and SPO.

“The delivery of Pacific Legend continues our successful partnership with JMU. This fuel efficient, high specification, high quality vessel will join its sisters, Pacific Leader and Pacific Legacy, in providing safe and professional service delivery to our clients across the world,” says Managing Director of SPO, Mr Neil Glenn.

Well-suited for supply duties in deep water environment, the L Class vessel (5248 DWT) is a large capacity Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) that is designed to deliver exceptionally reliable, economical and flexible solutions with its fuel-efficient modern design, comprising fuel efficient propulsion pods, a four-engine diesel electric power plant, large cargo carrying capacity and bulk cargo system. The bulbous bow design takes into consideration varying operating speed, draughts and sea states that Offshore Support Vessels (OSV) typically operate in and is designed to maximise its effectiveness over a wide range rather than a tuned design point. The hull is designed for a 7.5-year window between Class required mandatory dockings and propulsion and tunnel thrusters have been selected for their ability to be changed out when the vessel is afloat. The main deck has a clear deck space of 912 square metres.

The propulsion system features a computerised power management system that is programmable to ensure the optimisation of the diesel engine load and fuel consumption. The Cargomaxx bulk system allows for the carriage of dry and wet bulk cargoes in five separate tanks utilising a pressure vacuum system to load and upload the cargo and has a product weighing system to accurately measure a product delivered as an individual parcel or as an aggregated amount over a period of time. These FiFi 1, DP2 vessels are also SPS Compliant and Clean Class. Please refer to Appendix A for the Top 10 Features and Specification Sheet of Pacific Legend.

Pacific Legend is the third of a series of four L Class vessels that SPO has commissioned JMU to build. The first vessel, Pacific Leader was delivered in April 2014 and the second vessel, Pacific Legacy was delivered in August 2014. The fourth vessel, Pacific Liberty will be delivered in early 2015.

“The naming of Pacific Legend marks JMU’s continued successful partnership with SPO. We will continue to do our best to ensure that these vessels are built to the highest standards of safety and quality,” says Mr Yoshio Otagaki, Representative Director and Vice President, Ship and Offshore Division, Japan Marine United Corporation.

The L Class series of large PSVs is an important step in the growth and development of Swire Pacific Offshore’s fleet. Today, SPO operates a diverse fleet of 89 offshore support vessels, including anchor handling tug supply vessels, platform supply vessels, ice-breaking supply vessels, seismic survey vessels, wind-farm installation vessels, accommodation barges and multi-purpose offshore vessels.
