Nine U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) faculty
members visited the Hampton Roads area on June 4, as part of a professional development
tour which included briefs, ship visits and a tour of the MSI Norfolk
facility.
These visits to various operational commands are designed to provide the
faculty with a current perspective on technical, operational and
political-military operations and relationships. All of the briefs attended
by the faculty are designed to aid in their academic and professional
development course work with midshipmen.
Among other activities attended by the faculty included SH-60 helicopter
familiarization rides, a tour of a guided missile destroyer and fast attack
submarine, lunch aboard an the aircraft carrier, and a visit to an F/A-18
Hornet Squadron at Naval Air Station Oceana.
While attending MSI, the group piloted a fast frigate into Naples, Italy and
made underway replenishment approaches onboard a guided missile destroyer
