The Switch to Deliver Full-Power Converter for Floating Power Plant
Vancouver-based Water Wall Turbine Inc. (WWT) has selected The Switch to provide a 500 kW full-power converter for its self-floating power plant. This new system extracts potential and kinetic energy from large, fast moving water currents for conversion into electric energy. The Switch will supply its first 500 kW full-power converter in October 2014 for WWT’s prototype project, which will be used for the Dent Island Resort, near Vancouver Island off the west coast of British Columbia, Canada.
The Switch Wins Repeat PM Shaft Generator Order
The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet (PM) generator and full-power converter packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications, has received repeat PM shaft generator orders from WE Tech Solutions of Finland, a customer in the marine sector. WE Tech Solutions of Finland placed another order for seven PM shaft generators that will be delivered to their end-customers Terntank Rederi AS of Denmark and Torvald Klaveness of Norway.
The Switch to Be Acquired by Yaskawa
Yaskawa Electric Corporation, a company in motion control and robotics, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet generator and full-power converter packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications. The estimated schedule for closing the deal is within a few weeks. The Switch brand will continue as its own entity for selected markets and applications.
The Switch Inks Deal with WE Tech
The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet generators, motors and frequency converters, received an order from WE Tech Solutions Oy of Vaasa, Finland for four permanent magnet (PM) shaft generators. Coupled together with WE Tech’s WE Drive, these PM shaft generators represent game-changing technology for merchant ships to allow them to significantly cut back on operating costs when powering their onboard electric networks. The deliveries will start later this year.
