DNV GL Building Service Targets Fuel Efficiency

DNV GL to Class LNG Helgoland Ferry

The new Fassmer built Helgoland ferry for AG EMS, will be constructed under the supervision of classification society DNV GL. The nearly 80m long vessel will be the first German flagged newbuilding to be equipped with an propulsion system designed to operate primarily with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a fuel. Using LNG as fuel allows the vessel to make significant cuts to its emissions to the air, bringing it into compliance with incoming regulations to protect the environment.

DNV GL to Class Two Brazilian Pipe Laying Vessels

The two pipe laying vessels (PLSVs) are to be built at the brand new Vard Promar yard in Recife, in the North East of Brazil. The order is part of four OSVs by DOF/Norskan and Technip, important customers for Vard. The other two of these vessels are to be built in Norway, also to DNV class. The new Vard Promar yard in North East Brazil represents a significant expansion of Brazil’s shipbuilding capability as more yards will be built outside of Rio de Janeiro.
Corvus Lithium Energy Storage DNV-GL Type Approved

Corvus Energy’s lithium energy storage system is the world’s first to be type- approved by DNV GL. The type approval makes increased fuel efficiency and greatly reduced emissions available for heavy industries such as offshore oil and gas and commercial shipping, Corvus said. According to the manufacturer, rigorous testing over several years proves that heavy offshore machinery will maintain power and safety during operations using Corvus Energy’s AT6500 module.
