On Sunday, Peru's President signed agreements with her Japanese counterpart following a visit by the two leaders shortly after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit hosted in Lima. The agreements were inked by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Ishiba praised what he called a 10-year roadmap for cooperation.

As part of the agreement, assistance is provided to improve mining supply chains. Peru is the top copper producer in the world, and Japan is the largest consumer.

According to Boluarte, Peru's Foreign Minister, in the wake of the APEC Summit, Peru signed a deal for defense cooperation with South Korea. This included a sub-agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries, and a second deal with Korea Aerospace Industries, which will manufacture parts for fighter planes.

Last week, China's president Xi Jinping was in attendance as Peru inaugurated its megaport on the Pacific coast of Peru, Chancay. The port promises faster and better trade between Latin America, Asia and China. Reporting by Marco Aquino, Editing by Lisa Shumaker
