Britain won their first America's Cup Final in 60 years, beating Italy on Friday. They will now face New Zealand off Barcelona later this month.

Eight sailors aboard the British AC75 foiling boats celebrated loudly after crossing the finish line to win the Louis Vuitton Cup Series over Italy, and the right to compete against New Zealand.

Since 1851, the British have not won the coveted Auld Mug. They have also failed to qualify for the "match", which is the only way they can compete for it.

Ben Ainslie has built his boat with Formula One team Mercedes, and the support of British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

Ainslie thanked the crew and technical staff for their work and said, "It's an important day for our team."

He added, "This moment is just for you."

Ainslie, Ratcliffe and their crew received the silverware after beating the Italian crew during a closely-contested race.

The 37-year old, who has already been the most successful Olympic Sailor, made it his mission "to bring the Cup home". He has led a campaign which has cost over 100 million pounds ($131 millions).

Ainslie explained, "There is a large investment in time and money that you want to make count."
