Vessel reports an attack near the Red Sea port Hodeidah
Ambrey, a British security company, said that a merchant ship reported Thursday being struck by a projectile while in the Red Sea near the coast of Yemen.
Ambrey said that no injuries or damages were reported. The incident occurred 84 nautical mile west of Yemen’s port Hodeidah.
The ship was heading for the city of Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, (UKMTO), also confirmed that it had received a complaint about the incident.
Since November, Houthi militants based in Yemen have launched attacks on the region that disrupt international shipping.
Since then, many vessels have chosen to bypass the Red Sea route and instead take the longer journey around southern Africa.
The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, claim that the attacks were in solidarity with Palestinians during the conflict between Israel and the militant Islamist group Hamas.
