USTR Greer: Not all Chinese shipping fees will be implemented
U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer informed lawmakers on Tuesday that the proposed multimillion dollar fees for Chinese-built vessels docking at U.S. port may not be implemented in full and they might not be cumulative.
Greer said at a Senate Finance Committee Hearing that the proposals were to address the lack of shipbuilding within the United States. USTR will take the time to listen to stakeholders, and make sure that incentives are right.
He described the fees as "proposed actions, or a series of potential revenues that could be used to encourage shipbuilding in the U.S." Not all of them will be implemented. They won't all be stacked. (Reporting and editing by Mark Porter; David Lawder)
