US strikes Houthi leaders' hideouts in Yemen, Yemeni sources claim

Posted to Maritime Reporter on March 19, 2025

Houthi media reported that the U.S. conducted airstrikes overnight on multiple targets in Yemen, including Saada Province, which Yemeni officials say has been a hideout for Houthi leadership for many years, and Hodeidah port city on the Red Sea.

Al Masirah TV, a Houthi-run channel, reported that more than 10 attacks were carried out in various locations including the Al-Safra District in Saada. According to Yemeni sources, the district houses training and weapons storage sites and is one of the most heavily fortified and important military strongholds.

The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, warned that after weeks of relative calm on the Red Sea shipping routes following a Gaza ceasefire on January 12, they would re-attack Israeli vessels as a response to Israel closing Gaza's border crossings.

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, warned that Iran would be held accountable for any future Houthi attack and threatened severe consequences.

Despite pressure from the United States, Abdul Malik al Houthi and the Houthis have refused to reduce their attacks on the Red Sea. The group has launched several attacks against international shipping, claiming to be in solidarity with Palestinians during the Gaza War.

The Houthis announced on Tuesday that they will expand their target in Israel over the next few days and hours if the "aggression against Gaza" does not stop.

The group claimed to have used a ballistic rocket to target an Israeli airbase without supplying any evidence.

Yahya Sarea claimed, without supplying any evidence, that the Houthi group had successfully attacked the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carriers and other U.S. Warships using missiles and drones to thwart the U.S. attack.
