US announces Oregon offshore wind auction date in October
On Thursday, the Biden administration announced that it would auction off two areas of land near the southern Oregon coast to offshore wind developers in October.
The administration plans to install wind turbines on every U.S. coast, and this sale is a key part of that plan.
The Interior Department stated in a press release that if developed, these areas could generate enough wind energy to run a million households.
The Coos Bay Lease Area is 61203 acres (24 768 hectares). It is located about 51.5 miles (32.5 km) away from the shore. The Brookings Lease Area is 133.792 acres, and is located 18 miles away from the shore.
