Ukraine's Navy claims it destroyed a Russian ferry during an attack
The Ukrainian Navy confirmed Friday that it destroyed a ferry that was being used to transport fuel and weapons into occupied Crimea.
Local authorities said earlier that the ferry had been damaged and set on fire in the attack Thursday in the southern Krasnodar Region of Russia.
"Another objective, which is unquestionably military, has been destroyed. The purpose of the fuel was to supply fuel to the invaders. This port (Kavkaz), until the ferry has been removed, is unusable.
He added that "ferries accounted for 34 of all logistics, and were the main supply channel".
Fyodor Bábenkov, the district chief of Temryuk, which includes the port, confirmed that the ferry carried 30 fuel tanks. The attack caused significant damage, he said. This was Kyiv’s latest strike against Russian territory in the ongoing war between Moscow and Ukraine.
Kavkaz port is the largest Russian outlet on the Black Sea. The port handles both ships for exports as well as fuel supplies for Crimea, which was seized by Russian troops in 2014. (Reporting and editing by Christina Fincher, Timothy Heritage, and Pavel Polityuk)
