Ukraine exports 48.4 million tonnes of grain in 2023/24: Ministry
Data from the Agriculture Ministry showed that Ukraine's grain sales in the July-June 2023/24 marketing season were up to 48.4 millions metric tons on June 12 compared with 46.7 million tons at the same time in 2023.
Total volume includes 1.45 million tonnes sent abroad since June's start.
Exports totaled 17.8 millions tons of wheat, 27,6 million tons corn and 2.4 million tonnes of barley.
Ukraine exports approximately 95% of grain via its Black Sea port.
The government reported that the country harvested around 81 millions tons of grains and oilseeds during this season. This would translate to a 50 million-ton export surplus in 2023/24.
According to the ministry, in 2024 the combined grain and oilseeds crop could be 74 million tonnes. This includes 52.4 millions tons of grain.
APK-Inform Ukrainian consultancy stated this week that the export of grains could total 49 million tonnes and may decrease to 36 million tons by 2024/25 because of a smaller crop.
According to the ministry and analysts, the grain crop in 2024 could be between 52 and 53 million tons. (Reporting and editing by Louise Heavens, Louise Polityuk)
