Ukraine delays resumption ferry services to Georgia, says company

Posted to Maritime Reporter on July 23, 2024

According to its timetable, Ukrainian ferry company Ukrferry postponed resuming ferry service between Ukraine and Georgia. The service was suspended after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Last month, the company announced that it would resume service from the Black Sea Port of Chornomorsk on July 9. The ship was due to arrive in Georgia at the end of July.

According to the current schedule, the service is now scheduled for 24 July. The company did not give any explanation as to why the service was delayed.

After the Russian invasion in Ukraine, 2022, the ferry service was stopped. The ferry service was halted after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Ferries transport more than just passengers. They also carry a variety of cargo, such as trucks, railcars, and deck cargo, which is usually on pallets.

The company's route map showed that the ferry would bypass the Russian-occupied Ukrainian Crimea Peninsula.

Last year, Ukraine opened a route towards the western Black Sea after Ukrainian forces were able to drive Russian naval ships from that area by using sea drones.

The corridor has enabled Ukraine to increase its metals and grain exports. (Reporting and editing by Sharon Singleton; Sharon Singleton is the editor)
