Ukraine claims it has raided a Russian-controlled spit of land in the Black Sea
Ukraine's Military Intelligence Agency confirmed Wednesday that their forces conducted a raid against the Russian-controlled Tendra Spit, located in the northwestern part of the Black Sea. They said they had damaged equipment and fortifications as well as caused casualties.
It published a short video of a landing by a vessel with soldiers on board. The agency said that it destroyed an electronic warfare system, armoured vehicles from Russia and was assessing the Russian losses.
The Russian authorities in place on Tuesday claimed that Ukrainian saboteurs attempted to land at the Russian held spit of land from the sea.
The Russian governor who has been installed in the Kherson region of Ukraine, where the spit is located, said that Kyiv attacked using 12 vessels at high speed, of which eight were transporting troops and four others carrying fire support.
The Ukrainian HUR Military Intelligence Service said that its forces suffered no injuries. According to the Russian official, three boats with their crews and officers were destroyed.
Tendra Spit is located off the southern coast of Kherson Region in water considered important to maintaining Ukraine's Black Sea access.
In February, Ukraine launched an attack on the spit. Russia's Defence Ministry said that Ukraine had lost 25 soldiers in an unfruitful landing. Ukraine's Special Forces said they were involved in combat missions but didn't specify how many. Reporting by Anastasiia malenko, Editing by Tom Balmforth & Peter Graff
