UK power company SSE builds 2 GW of offshore wind farm in Netherlands
British power generator SSE and network operator said Tuesday that it would proceed, along with joint venture partners, in developing a 2 gigawatt off-shore wind farm in The Netherlands.
SSE stated that the wind farm will be operational by the end this decade. This is subject to a final decision on investment by the late 2025.
The lease will be for 40 years and the annual rent is around 1 million Euros ($1.1 million).
The Dutch government granted permits in June for the development of offshore wind farms totaling 4 gigawatts (4 GW) off the West Coast of the Netherlands.
SSE Renewables was selected, through a consortium that included Dutch pension fund ABP, and its asset manager APG to continue with their bid for the 2 GW IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Alpha site, according to the company.
Vattenfall, a Swedish energy company, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (a clean energy fund manager) were selected to build a wind farm of 2 GW called IJmuiden Ver Beta through a joint-venture called Zeevonk.
