Two people killed when a cargo train and a Chilean test train collide
EFE released a statement saying that two people died and nine were injured when a train being tested by Chile's State Railway Company (EFE) collided into a freight train operated by the private rail company Fepasa.
In the San Bernardo region, shortly after midnight, an EFE test train collided into a stationary Fepasa locomotive carrying 1,346 tons of copper.
Four Chinese nationals were injured while working on the test train. They are receiving medical care. Local law enforcement opened an investigation to investigate the accident.
The nine people were in serious condition at the moment but have been evacuated. They are not in a life-threatening situation, said Aravena during a media conference.
EFE confirmed the two deaths were operators of the Fepasa freight train.
Personnel from the San Bernardo Fire Department and Buin Fire Department participated in the rescue operation. According to Aravena, the initial findings suggested that the passenger train had been performing speed maneuvers at the time of the collision with the cargo train.
