Tracking data shows that the oil tanker captured by Iran in 2023 is anchored near the coast of UAE, according to tracking data

Ship tracking data revealed on Monday that a Chevron chartered oil tanker, seized by Iran over a year earlier, has anchored near the United Arab Emirates Port of Khor Fakkan.

In April 2023, the Iranian military boarded the Marshall Islands-flagged Advantage Sweet in Oman's Gulf after an alleged collision between an Iranian vessel and the Marshall Islands flagged boat.

LSEG data revealed that the vessel's latest position is near the UAE after sailing away from Iran in the last week.

Chevron's spokesperson confirmed on Saturday that it is aware of the reports that the tanker has been released on July 10.

The Chevron spokesperson stated in an email that they were "pleased to see the safe return of the vessel and its crew", without giving any further details. (Reporting from Jonathan Saul in London, Arpan Varghese at Bengaluru and Susan Fenton in Bengaluru)
