T-Mobile wins multi-year contract with the U.S. Navy

T-Mobile, a wireless carrier in the United States, announced on Thursday that it had been chosen by the U.S. Navy as a supplier of communication technology under a Spiral 4, ten-year contract worth $2.67 billion.

The contract is coming at a time that telecom providers are struggling with a slowing wireless market and stiff competitors.

T-Mobile announced that the Department of Defense agencies can now order wireless services and equipment through Spiral 4.

The contract covers voice, data and fixed wireless solutions as well as Internet of Things, mobility management and solutions for connectivity.

At midday, the company's share price was marginally higher.

T-Mobile, Verizon Communications, and AT&T also won the Spiral 3 contract in 2017, which lasted five years and was worth $994 millions.

Echostar, Verizon, and Wide Point announced last month that they had won a contract worth $2.67 billion.

T-Mobile says that government agencies can also benefit from the partnership between T-Mobile and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
