The Russian Navy begins major drills that involve the majority of its fleet
Russian media reported that the Russian Navy began planned exercises on Tuesday. The exercise involved a large part of their fleet, as well as some 20,000 people and 300 vessels, according to Russian news agencies citing information from the Defence Ministry.
TASS reported that the drills were to test the military command structures of the three navy fleets and the Caspian Flotilla. The Russian Navy is made up of four flotillas, a Caspian flotilla, and various task forces.
In the Caspian Sea, the Caspian Flotilla, as well as the Baltic Fleet, will be participating in these drills.
TASS reports that the training will involve around 300 ships, boats and submarines, 50 aircraft, and over 200 military and special units.
Russia, since launching its invasion of Ukraine in February 20, 2022, has carried out numerous military drills, either alone or together with other nations, such as China and South Africa.
Russia also carried out a number of drills involving mobile missile launchers and nuclear tactical weapons in the last two months. Belarus which shares borders with both Russia and Ukraine has increased its military training. A series of drills have been conducted.
