Officials and media reported that heavy rain and strong winds led to a roof collapse at New Delhi's main airport on Friday. At least three people were injured and the authorities had to cancel flights at one terminal.

The airport released a statement on social media website X stating that a portion of the canopy in the departures area at Delhi's Terminal 1 collapsed around 5 a.m.

The statement read: "There have been injuries reported, and emergency personnel is working to provide all the necessary assistance and medical care to those affected."

Three people were reported injured, and one person trapped under the collapsed ceiling.

The statement stated that all departures of low-cost carriers IndiGo & SpiceJet from the terminal were cancelled up to 2 p.m. (0830 GMT).

Media images showed water pouring out of the collapsed roof, and a taxi trapped under a pillar. Rain continued to fall in the area, causing inundated streets and traffic jams.
