The coolest way to stay cool in the Med heat is with Olympic ice vests
Some Olympic sailors are wearing ice vests in order to combat the scorching temperatures.
Some people use "heat protocol" when the temperature is around 30 Celsius during the day, and there are light winds.
The ice vest that Sara Tkadlecova, a Czech woman's crew in the women's skiff race, was wearing as she prepared to compete helped her cool down.
World Sailing, the sport's ruling body, has guidelines that dictate what to do when excessive heat is a problem. However conditions in Marseille haven't triggered them.
Tkadlecova replied, "I had to have ice-cold water poured over me" when asked about how she stayed cool on the Mediterranean the day before.
Zofia burska, Czech captain, stated that she did not wear her vest as it was leaking.
She said, "The water is running down my back. I do not like that."
Ice adds another dimension to the logistical aspect.
Kaj Bocker was on his own to go to the container of the Dutch Women's Skiff to pick up new ice.
Bocker demonstrated how vests come in a variety of designs and colors and have four compartments where ice packs can be inserted directly from the freezer. They last for several hours.
Kuwaiti single-handed women sailor Ameena Shah said that some athletes were struggling, but she didn't need a vest as she is used to it.
Shah said that she uses towels wetted in ice cold water to cool off when needed. Reporting by Alexander Smith, editing by Pritha Sakar
