State media reports that the Iranian Guards Navy has new high explosive missiles
State media reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced on Friday that their navy has newly developed cruise missiles with undetectable warheads and high explosives.
The announcement of the country's largest security organization coincides with fears that a full-blown Middle East conflict will break out after Iran pledged to avenge Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination on July 31, in Tehran, by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Iran has accused Israel of involvement, but Israel has not confirmed or denied this.
In today's world, you have to be strong to survive or give up. "There is no middle ground," Major-General Hossein Salami, the top commander of the Guards, said.
The Guards navy fleet has added a large number of cruise-missiles. The Guards said that these new missiles can be fitted with highly explosive warheads, which are invisible and can cause significant damage to their targets and sink them.
In a press release, the Guards' navy said that it has also added reconnaissance drones, naval radars and various long- and medium-range missile systems to its fleet.
The Guards Navy said that these systems were among the latest anti-surface and under-surface weapons.
On Friday, the state television showed several weapons. The navy said that only 210 out of 2,654 systems had been shown, as it wasn't possible to reveal other strategic ones due to security concerns.
Iran has the largest missile program in the Middle East. It views these weapons as a deterrent force and a retaliatory weapon against the U.S.A. and Israel, in case of war.
According to the U.S. Office for the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), Iran has the most ballistic missiles of any country in the region. (Editing by Mark Heinrich and William Maclean).
