Spithill makes his debut with the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team in Dubai
Red Bull Italy SailGP Team, the 12th and last entry in the SailGP 2025 season, was unveiled on Thursday.
The team, led by Jimmy Spithill will debut at this weekend's Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix. Italian driver Ruggero TITA and strategist Giulia FAVA are both double Olympic medalists.
Spithill, the team's founder and CEO, was excited about the Italian debut. He said that Italy has a lot of talent and devoted fans who will back Ruggi and his team.
We've assembled an incredible mix of talent and experience from the next generation."
Three-time SailGP winner Kyle Langford has joined the team, making a surprise move to Australia. Also joining are Matteo Celon, a veteran of America's Cup racing, and Enrico Voltolini.
Spithill, who left the U.S. SailGP Team in 2012, announced his intention to form an Italian sailing team.
The Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team and the Italy SailGP Team are the two new teams in the global league for this season.
Russell Coutts, CEO of SailGP, welcomed the addition and noted, "Italy has a proud sailing culture." This team, with Red Bull as its partner will bring Italian fans even closer to the action."
SailGP, an international sailing competition, features high-speed races on identical F50 foiling catsamarans capable of speeds exceeding 100 km/h. The league pits teams of nationals against one another in a series regattas that are held at iconic locations around the world. (Editing by Toby Davis).
