South Korea, Japan and South Korea report that North Korea fired a missile off the east coast of its country.
SEOUL/TOKYO (Sept. 18) - South Korea and Japan reported that North Korea launched a missile on its east coast Wednesday. This comes days after the country unveiled an uranium enrichment plant and pledged to beef up its arsenal of nuclear weapons.
The Japanese Defence Ministry stated that the North appeared to have used a missile and the coast guard of Japan confirmed the projectile was already down.
Yonhap reported that the missile was launched from South Korea's east coast. The report was based on military sources.
About 30 minutes after the first missile warning, Japan's Coast guard reported that North Korea had fired another missile. The coast guard reported that it had also fallen.
The North
Last Thursday, several short-range missiles were launched, the first launch of this kind in over two months. It was later described as an experiment with a new 600mm multi launch rocket system.
This latest launch came just days after the country first showed images of
centrifuges
Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, visited an uranium-enrichment plant and asked for more weapons grade material to boost its arsenal.
