LONDON, 16 April - SailGP will be flying across five continents from Perth's sun-drenched water to Abu Dhabi's glittering final in 2026. The championship has secured a number of venues that are sure to please the crowds under multi-year host deals.
The SailGP Championship is set to sail through Perth, Sydney and Rio de Janeiro before stopping in New York, Halifax, Portsmouth Saint-Tropez, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi for the Grand Final. Additional harbours are yet to be announced.
SailGP CEO, Sir Russell Coutts, said Wednesday that the event had attracted unprecedented interest from cities all over the world. "That includes world class racing in some the most iconic stadiums we've been to so far, and extending out presence in Australia by holding a first time event in Perth."
The 2026 calendar will follow SailGP’s regionalised format. It will start in Australia in early January, then move through the Americas, into Europe’s summer, and conclude with two consecutive UAE events in late November.
Coutts said that "destinations like New York or Saint-Tropez are cornerstone events on the SailGP Calendar, thanks to their beautiful backdrops, rich sporting history, and passionate fans."
In 2026, the championship will expand to include two more teams.
Coutts stated that "long-term hosting agreements enable SailGP build an enduring heritage in the cities we travel to, and become tentpoles events on the local sports calendar." (Editing by Pritha Sakar)
