Thungela Resources stated on Tuesday it anticipates its coal production for the year to December 2024 to surpass targets, thanks to performance performances and enhanced rail logistics in South Africa.

The South African thermal coal exporter stated in an upgrade output in its home country would be 13.4 million heaps, above the target range of 11.5-12.5 million tons.

Production at the Ensham mine in Australia, gotten last year as Thungela sought to diversify from South Africa's rail logistics traffic jams, is seen at 4 million heaps, higher than the modified guidance series of 3.5-3.8 million loads provided in August.

Thungela said enhanced rail efficiency had actually made it possible for a. step-up in efficiency at its Khwezela and Zibulo mines, while. better than expected progress made in passing through geological. features helped lift output at Ensham.

South African mineral exporters resorted to throttling. output to match the state-owned Transnet's constrained capacity,. blamed on an absence of locomotives and spares along with cable. theft and vandalism of its facilities.

The rail enhancement is anticipated to raise exports to 12.5. million lots this year, compared to 11.9 million tons in 2023,. Thungela said.

Thungela stated recent improvements in Transnet's functional. efficiency was because of additional engines put on the coal. line, schedule of critical locomotive spares, in addition to. line maintenance with improvements to the signalling network.
