Russian rescuers bring a killer whale back to the sea
The Russian emergency situation ministry announced that on Thursday, Russian rescuers brought back a young female killer whaling to the Sea of Okhotsk after it washed up in the Far East.
The ministry released a video showing a killer whale stranded on sand that was covered in snow. She was clearly breathing, and residents were lifting her to the sea.
The ministry stated that "the tide is rising so there is hope the killer whale will swim into the sea."
The killer whale's condition was extremely bad. There were cracks in the skin. They watered the killer whale with seawater and dug a channel out of the sea.
Last month, a group of killer whales stranded themselves in an estuary that was silted in Russia's Far East. They were rescued and returned to the ocean.
