Russia begins wheat exports to Brazil from Baltic Terminal

Posted to Maritime Reporter on June 7, 2024

The quality inspection division of Russia's agricultural watchdog announced on Friday that wheat has begun to be shipped from Vysotsky Port, located on the Baltic Sea.

The grain quality assessment center said that for the first ever, grain was shipped from Russian Baltic Sea port to Brazil.

The company said that a shipment of 31,000 tons of wheat was subjected to quality tests and shipped at the beginning of June.

The first grain cargo to Tunisia will be shipped from the Vysotsky Port grain terminal in April 2023. The terminal's capacity is set at 4 million tonnes per annum.

The Baltic Sea grain terminals are under pressure due to record exports and are at full capacity.

Russia estimates grain imports for the current season 2023/24 at 70 million tons. According to the Russian Agriculture Ministry, Brazil will be a large buyer of wheat in 2023. The total amount exported to Brazil will be 929,000 tonnes. (Reporting and editing by Mark Trevelyan; Olga Popova)
