Rio Tinto reports missing crew member from ship on route to Australia
Rio Tinto, a miner in Australia, said that a deckfitter aboard its bulk carrier traveling from China to Western Australia had been reported missing the previous week. The Philippine Coast Guard is leading a search-and-rescue operation.
Rio Tinto has said that the company is continuing its extensive search for the missing person, and has been doing so over the past week. The company works closely with RTM Zheng He ship and crew manager Anglo Eastern and the relevant authorities.
Anglo-Eastern, as well as the Philippine Coast Guard, did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
Rio Tinto stated that it would cooperate with the authorities, the manager of the ship and conduct its own investigation. (Reporting and editing by Jamie Freed in Bengaluru, Rishav chatterjee)
