PARIS OLYMPICS: What you should know now
China won the Olympic table tennis team title for men on Friday. France was hoping for gold and Algerian boxer Imane Khhelif was preparing to compete for gold.
There are 35 gold medals to be won on Friday, including in the sports of athletics, boxing and cycling track.

CHINA WINS
Ma Long, one of China's most talented athletes, won the gold medal after China defeated Sweden in three thrilling matches played on Friday. Sweden took silver, and France won bronze.
Final SOCCER
Thierry Henry and France will be aiming for their first Olympic gold medal in 40 years at the final men's match, while Spain will aim to improve upon their silver from Tokyo.
The match began at 1600 GMT in Paris' Parc des Princes with Spain leading by 2-1.
GERMANY WOMEN'S SOCKET BRONZE
Germany won the bronze medal at the women's football tournament thanks to Giulia Gwinn's penalty. The world champions had missed a penalty in extra time, but the Germans were able to win 1-0.
PENTATHLON HOPES
Ahmed Elgendy, Egypt's gold-medal hope, recovered from a showjumping nightmare on Friday to reach the final of the Modern Pentathlon for men with an Olympic record.
Elgendy, 24, won silver at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. He hopes to bring his country its first gold medal of the 2024 Olympics in front of the Palace of Versailles.
U.S. DOMINATES RELLAY
The United States topped the women's 4x400 metre relay qualifiers. France was also able to qualify for the final. Since 1996, the U.S. has won every 4x400 women's relay.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi was in excellent shape when he won the semi-final of the Olympic 800m from gun to tape. He will now move on to compete in that final where he hopes to make it a fifth consecutive win for Kenya.
CLIMBING SURPRISE
Toby Roberts, from Britain, was just as surprised as everyone else when he won the gold medal for bouldering and lead in a major upset, which saw Japan's Sorato Araku, who had been considered a clear favourite, settle for silver.
KITEBOARD WIN
Valentin Bontus, an Austrian, won the gold medal in men's kiteboarding. Toni Vodisek from Slovenia won silver, and Max Maeder from Singapore took bronze in the final.
Bontus, a 23-year-old from Germany, celebrated his victory with a big aerial jump on his foilingboard, pumping both fists after a dominant end.
CYCLING RECORD
Lea Friedrich of Germany set a new world record for the 200-metre flying lap in qualifying for the women's sprint cycling race at the National Velodrome.
KHELIF FIGHTS for GOLD
Imane Khelif of Algeria, who found herself at the center of a gender controversy early in the Paris Games, will fight for gold in women's welterweight. The bout will take place at 2051 GMT.
Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said that a decision about boxing's inclusion in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 must be made by 2025. Last year, the IOC stripped International Boxing Association its official recognition for failing to implement reforms in governance and finances.
MARATHON GOLD
Hungary's Kristof Raskovszky took gold in the 10km men's marathon swimming event, beating Germany's Oliver Klemet by a narrow margin. The race was a long and arduous slog down the Seine River.
KAYAK DOUBLE
New Zealand has won the gold medal in the women's double 500m kayak at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. Hungary won the silver medal and Germany was originally declared third. They were tied with the second Hungarian team, which also received a bronze.
PISTOL SHOOTER COLLAPSES
Kim Ye-ji of South Korea, who won a silver medal in the Olympic pistol shooting competition at the Paris Games, collapsed during a press conference. This was due to exhaustion and stress.
Kim spoke at an event held in South Korea.
PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Letsile Tebogo, who won the 200 metre race on Thursday, was awarded the first gold medal for Botswana by the president.
Tebogo blew past the Americans Kenny Bednarek, and Noah Lyles who was infected with COVID. Lyles claimed that the virus had an impact on his performance.
ARRESTS
The Paris prosecutor’s office announced that Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott was arrested at the luxury Georges V Hotel in Paris on Friday for an unspecified act of violence against a guard.
We were unable to reach Scott's representatives immediately for comment.
The Paris prosecutor's said that a French police officer arrested an Egyptian Olympic wrestler under suspicion of sexual assault. Egypt's Olympic Committee announced that the wrestler will also be subject to a disciplinary proceeding.
