PARIS OLYMPICS: what you should know now

On Thursday, the United States will attempt to be the first American to win both the Olympic sprint and the Olympic marathon double in over 40 years.

The women's marathon 10km swimming race started early in the morning after the water quality tests on the Seine met the thresholds.

SPRINT DOUBLE LYLES FOR LYLES

Sharon van Rouwendaal, of the Netherlands, won gold in women's marathon 10km swimming. She took the lead from Australian Moesha Johnston late on the last lap. Italy's Ginevra Tadddeucci took home the bronze.

This grueling event involves a 1,67km loop that is completed six times on the river running through France's capital.
