PARIS OLYMPICS: what you should know now

In a thrilling afternoon, the Velodrome saw Australia and the United States win gold in both the women's and men's team-pursuit events.

The evening session on the track is underway. Men's 400m was the highlight of the event.

What you should know about Wednesday's Olympic Games:

HOLDER PURSUIT

The men’s team pursuit was a close final between the United States and Britain, which saw the Americans win their first Olympic Gold medal since 2004.

Throughout the 16 lap duel, there was no clear winner. The Australians, Sam Welsford (Oliver Bleddyn), Conor Leahy, and Kelland o'Brien were always a fraction ahead.

FRANCE ASKS FBI FOR HELP WITH SABOTAGE CASE

France police investigating

Two sources who are directly involved in the investigation said that the FBI was asked to help with the sabotage on high-speed lines just hours before the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

The FBI was called by investigators after they received emails from media outlets, which included the BBC, that the police believed may have come from the suspects. The email was a long list of complaints, but it did not claim to be the perpetrators.

DUTCH & AUSTRALIAN SEA GOLD

Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark won the silver medal. Marit Bouwmeester, of the Netherlands, claimed gold in the women’s dinghy.

Matt Wearn, the Australian Olympic champion, won gold at the Men's Dinghy. Pavlos Kontides, of Cyprus, took his second silver in his fifth Games.

AUSTRALIAN HOCKEY PLAYER RESTAINED FOR COCAINE

Tom Craig, an Australian Olympic hockey player who was arrested for cocaine in Paris on Tuesday and released by police after apologising to his teammates and family.

Craig, who won a Silver Medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2003, played over 100 matches for his national team. On Sunday, the Kookaburras men's football team was knocked from the Olympics by the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

CLIMBING WINS

Aleksandra Miroslav, a Polish world record holder in women's climbing speed won her nation's very first gold at the Paris Games. This was the sport's Olympic premiere as an individual event.

Race Walk Relay

Alvaro Martin, a two-time world champion from Spain, and Maria Perez won the gold in the relay race for mixed marathons by almost a minute. This event was making its Olympic debut.

PRODUCT PLACEMENT

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said that the Paris Games has increased the opportunities for product placement by sponsors. This trend is expected to continue at future Games.

WRESTLING

The Indian Olympic Association announced that Vinesh Phogat, an Indian wrestler who failed to meet the weight requirements for the 50kg women's freestyle final hours before it was scheduled to take place, has been disqualified.

She will receive no medal, regardless of colour.
