PARIS OLYMPICS: what you should know now
On Wednesday, 23 gold medals will be awarded at the Olympics, with the majority of them in the athletics, but also the sailing, artistic Swimming, Boxing, Skateboarding, Speed Climbing and other sports.

Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi won his 800 metre heat in just one minute, 44.64 second. This was the fastest time in the entire day.

Jasmine Camacho Quinn of Puerto Rico won the 100m hurdles heats with the fastest time, while all other favourites advanced to the semi-finals.
Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian world record holder and Masai Russel from America are both trying to topple her. Cyrena Mayela of France is also a bright hope for a gold medal in individual track.
Race Walk Relay
Alvaro Martin, a two-time world champion from Spain, and Maria Perez won the gold in the relay race for mixed marathons by almost a minute. This event was making its Olympic debut.
NIGHT MARATHON
On Saturday, amateur runners can run the same Olympic Marathon course in Paris as athletes. But they will have the excitement of doing so at night and on a route well lit that takes them past the iconic monuments of the city.

The Paris Olympics has broadened the reach of sponsors. From Louis Vuitton bags at the opening to selfies on Samsung phones, there's been a wide range.

New Zealand paddlers
Lisa Carrington, Aimee Fischer and the other women who qualified for the semifinals of the 500-metre single-kayak event in Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium won their heats.

In the 200 metre men's flying lap, he was the fastest qualifier for the Olympic sprint track.
WRESTLING
The Indian Olympic Association announced that Vinesh Phogat, an Indian wrestler who failed to meet weight hours before the 50kg women's freestyle final was disqualified. She will no longer receive any medals.
SMARATHON SWIMMING
After being cancelled Tuesday because of concerns about water pollution, the familiarisation session was held as planned on Wednesday after water quality tests were met.
