Olympics-LA28 unveils additional Olympic venues

Posted to Maritime Reporter on July 12, 2024

According to a new venue plan released for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, golf will be played in the Riviera Country Club while sailing and water-polo will take place in Long Beach.

The USTA Training Center at Dignity Health Sports Park will host tennis in Carson. Rugby sevens, field-hockey and cycling track are also being held in Carson.

The Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles will host wrestling, taekwondo, judo and table tennis. Los Angeles will also host weightlifting and badminton.

Long Beach will host the canoe sprint and handball. It will also host the marathon swimming, triathlon, rowing, and triathlon.

Janet Evans, LA28's chief athlete officer, said: "The 2028 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are going to reflect the best of Los Angeles and we're proud to bring them to our diverse and vibrant communities."

Los Angeles, the city that hosted previous Games in 1984, will be hosting more sports than ever. Carson and Long Beach will also host more events than before.

The venues in these cities provide ideal conditions for both athletes and fans. We look forward to welcoming them 2028.

LA28 announced the announcement after last month announcing that swimming would take place in the home of the NFL Rams and Chargers, while softball and canoe-slalom would be played in Oklahoma City. This was done to reduce costs.

In the months to come, organizers will announce more venue assignments. This includes new sports such as flag football and cricket which have been added since LA28’s 2017 Bid Plan. Reporting by Rory Carroll, Los Angeles; editing by Andrew Cawthorne
