Olympics-Canoeing-France's Gestin destroys field to take top spot for slalom final
Nicolas Gestin, France's world number three, won the single canoe-slalom final in Monday's semi-final, clocking a time of 93.22, more than 3 seconds quicker than his nearest rival.
At the Vaires sur-Marne nautical centre, Miquel Tave from Spain was in the lead for a long time and Adam Burgess of Britain sat comfortably at second. But Gestin snatched the top spot on the final run.
Burgess' teammate Kimberley, who took bronze in Sunday’s single women’s kayak slalom final, cheered him on. He will hope to match or better her performance later in the day.
Yves Bourhis, of Senegal, pulled off an aggressive descent in order to finish ninth in his discipline and secure his place in the final. His country's very first Olympic Finalist.
