Olympics-Canoeing-Fox slips up, Funk tops standings ahead of women's kayak final

Posted to Maritime Reporter on July 28, 2024

The world's number one women's kayaker, Jessica Fox from Australia, made it to the finals of the Paris Olympics' single-kayak event on Sunday. But the French-born canoeist wasn't perfect. Germany's Ricardafunk topped the rankings.

Fox was the last to descend the course after her brilliant performance in Saturday's heats. She picked up two 2-second penalties and finished in eighth place with a time 102:38, less than five seconds behind Funk.

The 22 racers were reduced to 12 for the final on Sunday. Both Britain's Kimberley and Poland's Klaudia Woods ran flawlessly and broke the 100 second barrier.

The final will be held at Vaires-surMarne's Nautical stadium at 1745 local. (Reporting and editing by Ken Ferry; Philip O'Connor)
