Official Russian statement: Ukraine's attacks on the Black Sea Fleet forced Black Sea Fleet warships to move from Sevastopol
A Russian-installed official said on Sunday that the Black Sea Fleet of Russia was forced to remove many warships, from the naval base in Sevastopol, on the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014. This is due to the attacks by Ukraine.
Dmitry Rogozin's remarks, made by a Russian senator in the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia area and former head of Russia’s space agency Dmitry Rogozin is the first official confirmation from Russia that the fleet had to leave Sevastopol.
The Ukraine has said that its attacks on Russian ships in the Black Sea forced Moscow to move their ships to Novorossiisk.
Rogozin said to the Moskovsky Komsomolets that Russia needs to be more serious in its drone development and organisation, as well as the development of electronic war and satellite positioning systems.
Rogozin stated that a military-technical Revolution is happening before our eyes, referring to the development of electronic warfare and drones. He added that the pace at which innovation changes the frontline every month.
Rogozin is quoted as saying, "The Black Sea Fleet serves as an example." It was forced to move because our large ships were becoming targets for unmanned enemy vessels.
Rogozin stated that Russia was behind in drone technology when the war began in 2022. Although it has made great strides since then, the country needs to move more quickly, especially with its focus on weapons and the creation special drone regiments.
He said that satellite and surface guidance system capable of overcoming electronic warfare are important for accurate targeting. (Reporting and editing by Guy Faulconbridge)
