North Korea's sister claims that the US is increasing its nuclear submarine threats

Posted to Maritime Reporter on September 24, 2024

Kim Yo Jong - the powerful sister to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un - has criticised the presence in Busan of a U.S. submarine, according to state media KCNA.

Kim said it was a sign of U.S. desire to "show off its nuclear strategic assets and increase threats", as reported by KCNA.

According to South Korea's Navy, Yonhap reported that the USS Vermont arrived on Monday at a naval station in Busan to replenish supplies and give crew members a chance to rest.

Kim's remarks were published after the South Korean, United States and Japanese foreign ministers met on Monday at the U.N. General Assembly.

In a joint statement, the South Korean foreign ministry stated that they expressed concern about North Korea's recent disclosure of its uranium-enrichment facilities, as well as their continued "illegal" military cooperation. They also agreed to work towards achieving a trilateral meeting within this year.
