Nexans, a manufacturer of offshore wind cables, says that it could turn its US facility into an export hub
Nexans announced on Wednesday that it would convert its U.S. plant into an export center if Donald Trump's second term as president brought challenges to the offshore wind industry.
In Charleston, South Carolina, the French power and data cables specialist makes underwater cables for the U.S. offshore market.
Nexans' management stated that it could divert cables made in the U.S. to Europe without affecting its margins.
"I don't think there is any risk to us if Trump stops all offshore U.S. activity for the next four-year period in the U.S.," stated Jean-Christophe Juillard. He is Nexans' deputy chief executive officer and chief financial officers.
Two of the biggest companies in the offshore wind sector, Siemens Energy, and RWE, have warned of potential challenges and delays with the technology that was criticized by the president elect on Wednesday. (Reporting from Nathan Vifflin, Gdansk. Editing by Milla Nissi.)
